What can I say?  I’ve been wanting to come here for the longest time due to such great reviews from other bloggers and through word of mouth.  I’m happy to report that you WILL NOT be disappointed…well you might be about the wait because this place is always JAMMED packed.

Din Tai Fung is famous for their xiao long bao, which is a steamed dumpling with a savory broth inside (yes, broth and lots of it) + your choice of meat.  It’s like eating soup that is packaged into a dumpling, a very interesting and wonderful experience.  We got several types and boy were they amazing.  We got the juicy pork xiao long bao for starters.  When you first pick one up, you notice how soft and delicate it is.  You have a choice to dip it into the saucer with ginger and vinegar or to eat it as is.  Once you take your first bite, you get this burst of savory broth into your mouth, followed by juicy, tender pork.  It was heavenly.  The dumplings are smaller than you think.  I can eat about 20 of them and just barely be satisfied.  They come in an order of 10 and each dumpling is probably the size of two quarters…yes…they are small…but very delectable nonetheless.

We also ordered different xiao long baos, such as pork + crab, shrimp with pork, etc.  They all, more or less, taste the same.  The same broth is used, so the distinction is very minimal.  We also decided to order some pork fried rice.  We weren’t expecting anything special since they are more known for their dumplings, but MAN were we wrong.  The fried rice was fantastic.  The fried rice was light, but fragrant.  It also had a charbroiled taste to it; probably due to the fact that it was cooked in a high powered wok.

There’s really nothing more I can say, you definitely HAVE TO, HAVE TO, HAVE TO make some time and try this place out.  There aren’t very many of these restaurants around and we are lucky to have one in Southern California.  I know for a fact I will be back and taking many people with me.  Please, go.
