Sandwiches. I never had cravings when it came to cold cut/regular sandwiches. It’s probably because I’ve had so many going through grade school and life in general that sandwiches rarely bring excitement to me anymore….that is until I saw this smoke house in Los Gatos.

Julie wasn’t feeling anything heavy, so she suggested getting sandwiches for lunch. Luckily, I ran across this meat smoke house in Los Gatos, CA. It was close by and the sandwiches actually got me really excited to try them, something I haven’t felt for a sandwich in a really long time.

When we got there, the first thing I noticed was that they had tri-tip, pork butt, etc smoking in a homemade smoker they had at the front of the store. Also, this isn’t really a restaurant, it’s more of a deli. You come get what you want and then you can eat outside or take it home. They also process wild game too if you are a hunter, but I doubt most people are. If you ever want them to clean your catch of the day though, they’ll do it!

So when we got there, we decided on the Superhero sandwich (tri-tip w/BBQ sauce, mayo, lettuce, onion, banana peppers, avocado, tomato, cheddar cheese) and the Pastrami sandwich (pastrami, avocado, lettuce, onion, tomato, mayo). We got both sandwiches with Dutch Crispy bread, which is honestly the best bread you can get with a sandwich :). It’s crispy on the outside and very hearty in the center. The Superhero sandwich is to die for. The tri-tip is very, very tender. There’s not a lot of smoke flavor in the tri-tip, but I guess you can get a hint of it. Doesn’t matter though as the meat is just cooked perfectly. They were also very generous with the avocado and the other ingredients definitely added to the sandwich as a whole. This is definitely something you must get if you go here. The BBQ sauce that goes on the meat is good too. They don’t overuse the sauce in the sandwich, sure it still runs down your hands, but it’s definitely the right amount to perfectly balance the sandwich.

The pastrami sandwich to me was a little disappointing compared to the Superhero. It was still very good, but I definitely have had better pastrami elsewhere. However, this sandwich is still easily one of my top 3 favorites already because of the fresh ingredients that they use. Therefore, in general, it’s probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. Compared to the Superhero, however, it pales in comparison. Just get the Superhero or anything with the tri-tip here, you won’t be disappointed.

I really recommend this place if you are anywhere in the San Jose area. This city is just full of local mom and pop shops that you have to try out. This is definitely one of those places and you would definitely be missing out on a true gem if you pass this place up.
